Christmas Homemade Playdough

Last Friday, Landon and I decided to make our own playdough. The Play Doh that we buy from the store always dries out, so I thought we would try to make our own. It is so easy and cheap to make. We only made one color, but plan to make other colors. This recipe gave us the perfect amount to play with. Next time for demonstration purposes, I might not choose red as the color choice since it resembles a brain when you drip the red food coloring onto the dough. Here is the recipe:

1 cup flour
1 cup water
1/2 cup of salt
2 tsp of cream of tartar
Your choice of food coloring
Optional: Add vanilla or peppermint extract to add a nice smell to your playdough

Add all of the ingredients except the food coloring into a medium sauce pan over medium heat and mix it together until starts to thicken up and forms a ball. Then remove from the heat and you can either hand mix the food color dye in and knead the dough until the color is consistent throughout. Or you can mix it in your Kitchen Aid so you don’t have to get the food coloring all over hands.

Have fun!!
